Dr. "G" was born in Chicago Illinois on November 2, 1972. He was a full scholarship swimmer from 1990-1995, attended University of North Carolina Wilmington graduating with a BS in Chemistry with honors, a minor in math and Spanish, and University of Illinois Veterinary School graduating with a DVM in 2000. During school he worked at the ASPCA Urbana Champaign from 1995-1997 and the University of Illinois Toxicology Lab from 1995-2000. Out of veterinary school Dr. G. worked at Dover Shores Veterinary Hospital from 1999-2001, and became an associate veterinarian at Canyon Animal Hospital in 2001. In 2007 Dr. G. became co-owner of Canyon Animal Hospital. Dr. G. is a member of several organizations including AVMA, CVMA, SCVMA, Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier National Health Committee, Kerry Blue Terrier National Health Committee and Great Western Terrier Dog Show Head Veterinarian from 2002 to present. He has also provided veterinary support for Bluebell Foundation for Cats, Laguna Beach Animal Shelter, Newport Beach Animal Shelter, Bloodhounds West Breed Rescue, Greyhound Pets of America, West Highland Terrier Rescue, Beagle Rescue and Jack Bradshaw dog show superintendents. Currently Dr. G. lives in Newport Heights with his wife Amy and their 3 daughters. He has 3 canine friends, "Duncan", "Lily", "Sophie" and a pig named "Waffles."
Dr. Lauren Brower is a born and raised native of Laguna Beach. After graduation from Laguna Beach High School she attended the University of San Diego, and during her sophomore year of college joined the Canyon Animal Hospital team as a veterinary technician. As an undergraduate she rode on the university's varsity equestrian team. After her third year of studying in San Diego she made the move across the country to Columbus, Ohio where she attended The Ohio State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. While attending veterinary school she was initiated into the veterinary honors society, Phi Zeta and was awarded the Senior Pfizer Award for Small Animal Clinical Proficiency. After graduation she anxiously returned to sunny southern California to start her career as an associate at Canyon Animal Hospital. She has continued to broaden her education with acupuncture training and is a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist. Her integrative approach, incorporating the best conventional medicine with alternative treatments allows for a more holistic approach to your pet. In her spare time Dr. Brower loves riding horses and playing with her dogs Stella and Porter. She also has three cats (Maverick, Hidey and Thor) and 7 chickens (Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia, Roosevelt, Louise, Maude and Mable) and her two-legged child Sam!
Wally came to us last year after he was found running the streets. We have adopted him as our hospital mascot, put him through veterinary school and you can find him here every day comforting clients, greeting new patients and fostering kittens.
She runs the place. Enough said.
Sarah was introduced to the veterinary field through an ROP program in high school. She got her first job in an animal hospital when she was a senior in high school. After 2 years of daytime practice Sarah starting working emergency/ critical care. She continued working in both general practice and emergency while studying to get her Registered Veterinary Technician License. Not only is Sarah a Registered Technician, but she also has a bachelors degree in English Literature. Sarah came to Canyon Animal Hospital in 2001. She took a short leave of absence from 2004-2006 to work for Veterinary Pet Insurance. When Sarah returned in 2006, she became the Practice Manager. Her great social skills and client service help keep the office running smoothly. She currently lives in Oceanside with husband and beautiful twin boys.
Kat has been a part of the team at Canyon Animal Hospital since 1997. She loves all the people and the furry pets that she has met through her years of service. Kat is a native Sothern California girl. She attended Dana Hills High School. Kat has a beautiful daughter who graduated from SDSU. Kat loves old classic cars, especially Camaros. She also loves to go to the desert and shoot guns. A fun fact about Kat is that she started roller skating when she was 9 years and later became a profession instructor at Mission Viejo Skateway. Kat now lives in Dana Point with her boyfriend Larry.
Tracy joined our team in 2011 after working at a veterinary hospital in upstate New York. Her cheery personality and bright smile brighten everyone’s day. She is Laguna Beach local with 3 kids and 3 Chihuahuas. In her spare time, she’s either at the beach or cheering on her children at their water polo games. You might see her out and about in town. She’s always on the go!
Bonita has been a receptionist since 2011. She is currently attending Santa Ana College where she is majoring in history and hoping to transfer to another University in the near future. Bonita has had pets her entire life, and has a beautiful rescue dog named Molly. She takes pleasure in helping clients taking of their animals. In Bonita’s spare time, she loves to eat and is learning how to cook.
Bre has been our head technician since 2001. She graduated college in 2006 from Chapman University with a degree in Technical Theater. After college graduation, realizing her love for animals Bre started working at Canyon Animal Hospital as a veterinary assistant. After finishing her training program in 2011 she received her Registered Veterinary Technician license in 2012. In her spare time Bre rides and trains her two horses and enjoys snowboarding. She shares her home with 2 cats, 1 bunny and a goat named Rodeo.
Teresa was born and raised in Orange County and after bottle raising a 2 day old puppy she realized her love for animals. She is currently in her third year at Heritage College and has been working as a veterinary assistant for 2 years at Canyon Animal Hospital. Teresa will be continuing on to attend the alternate route veterinary technician program to obtain her RVT license. Teresa enjoys dancing and watching horror movies, and lives in Oceanside with her husband and 2 dogs.
Samantha started working at Canyon Animal Hospital in 2014 as an animal care attendant. She quickly discovered her love for animal nursing and enrolled at Heritage College in the Veterinary Assistant program. She is currently working hard to obtain 4400 hours of practical experience so she will be able to continue to work towards an RVT license. In her free time you can find her running on the beach, snorkeling, hiking, and playing with her 2 cats George and Humphrey.
Natalia starting working at Canyon Animal Hospital in 2011 while she was volunteering at Laguna Beach Animal Shelter. She is currently attending Ross University in her first year as a veterinary student, and you will see her over holidays and summertime working with us!
Carmelo and Teresa have been an integral part of the Canyon Family for many years. Carmello started working at Canyon in 1994. Carmello is the Kennel Attendant Manager. His fabulous care and excellent animal handling skills are an example for all. Teresa joined the team in 2001 after working at The Bluebell Foundation for Cats. While your pets are visiting us, you can count on Carmello and Teresa for undivided love and attention. We often get questions about who does our holiday decorations. Thanks to Carmello and his staff, Canyon Animal Hospital is always festive.
Marcos Parada has been a member our animal care attendant staff since 2008. He enjoys taking our patients out for walks and making sure all of their needs are met, including repairing any machine that stops working. In his spare time you can find him fishing in Dana Point.
Emilio has been working at Canyon Animal Hospital since 2011. There is no animal alive that does not adore Emilio, his patience and calm demeanor will settle any nervous patient. He can always be found petting and talking to the dogs, cats, and even Dr G's pig Waffles. Emilio loves gardening and donuts.
